Last week the Bill Bernbach Award jury gathered to judge our network’s best ideas of 2017. Ideas worthy of a Bernbach Award must represent the kind of thinking needed to take our business into the future and also remain true to the heritage and ideals of our revolutionary founder.

Juan Carlos Ortiz, Creative Chairman DDB Americas, presided over this year’s jury comprised of creatives from DDB’s Global Creative Council and Phyllis Project. After reviewing nearly 400 entries, the jury selected 97 nominees from 28 offices across the network. Winners were awarded in each media category, except Mobile, where the jury felt the work needed to be stronger overall.

This year’s best of show Grand Prix was awarded to the Marmite Gene Project film from adam&eveDDB London. They tapped into current trends in DNA technology and brought a fresh take to the Marmite “Love it or hate it” slogan, proving a person’s preference for Marmite might just come down to genetics. While the full campaign received the Bernbach Award in the Integration category, it was the artistry and genius of the film that stood above the rest. It’s provactive scenes reveal “scandals” among family members who didn’t inherit the same genetic markers for Marmite. As Bernbach said, “The magic is in the product.” And the team at adam&eveDDB London have created a topical, hilarious story with Marmite front and center.
